TRE (Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises)
TRE is an amazing, cutting-edge technique involving simple exercises to fatigue the leg muscles and initiate an involuntary, ‘neurogenic’ tremor. This tremor is builds apon itself and releases tension in the muscles of the legs, thighs, groin and glutes, and can move up the body, through the abdominal muscles and diaphragm, to the neck and shoulders, releasing muscles anywhere where there is held tension.
After a session many people report feeling more centered or grounded, relaxed, free of hip or back tension, and sleep more deeply. Improvement with anxiety & digestive bloating or discomfort is often reported as well. Usually a session will be relaxing, there can be strong sensations as the tremor moves the body, but never any pain or strong discomfort. Occasionally the practice will bring up emotions, and we just witness them, stopping if we become too overwhelmed. The key is to stay present in the body, in the here and now. This is the only place we can heal from!
Kali Foster teaches the practice and usually recommends 3 sessions, spaced out over 3-4 weeks. You can do the practice at home, and come back to check in, tremor under supervision, ask any questions that arise, etc. Group Yoga & TRE classes for further training and support are also available.
TRE is a neurological tremor that animals and young children do naturally after a traumatic experience. As adult humans, with complex brains in a complex society, we have suppressed the natural down-regulating role of the parasympathetic nervous system, that calms us. Because of this, traumatic experiences & long term stress are often held, unresolved in our muscles, like a charge of adrenaline under the surface. TRE begins to unlock this tension and set us free.
$90 for Initial 1.5hr session (Plus $10 for the booklet), then only $50 for ongoing sessions (2 more recommended).
